A receipt is the donor's record of their gift. That single fact explains everything about how Mich handles them:
- Receipts are numbered in sequence, because a numbered series is auditable and a bag of loose documents is not.
- A mistake is corrected by voiding and replacing, never by editing or deleting. A gap in a numbered series is a problem; an audited correction is not.
- Acknowledgments for pledges are kept separate, with their own template and numbering, because no money has arrived yet and they are not receipts.
Receipts are built by mail-merge from templates you supply, so they carry your own letterhead and wording.
