There is no step two

Nothing to request, no key to wait for, no account. Install Mich and start entering your donors. The free version is the complete application — every feature, including receipts, reports, spreadsheet import and backups.

It is limited only in how much it holds: 10 each of donors, donations, pledges, pledge payments, funds, campaigns, appeals and events, and 5 receipts. Reach a limit and Mich says so; everything you have entered stays fully editable.

When you outgrow it, buy a license and the limits come off. Your data is already there — nothing to migrate, nothing to re-enter.

System requirements

First-run steps

  1. Download and run the installer.
  2. Launch Mich and create your master password — this encrypts your database. Keep it safe; it can't be recovered if lost.
  3. Start entering your donors and gifts. Everything works from the first launch — there is no key to activate and nothing is locked.
  4. Explore the guides, or import a spreadsheet you already have. Mich tells you before it writes anything how many rows will be imported.
  5. When you're ready to buy, purchase a license and activate the new key on the same screen.
Why free instead of a trial? You can install Mich and set it up with real data before committing to anything, with no clock running. It also means the app never holds your data hostage: if a license lapses, your records stay readable, editable and exportable.
Important: your master password is never stored anywhere. If you forget it, your database and its backups cannot be opened. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
