Donations · Step 3 of 6

Record an in-kind gift

Record a gift of goods or services rather than cash, and value it.

Intermediate

An in-kind gift is goods or services rather than money: donated equipment, professional time, auction items. It is still a donation and still belongs to the donor's history.

1. Set the type to In-kind

The donation form with Type set to In-kind, a Total Value of 450 dollars, and a description of the donated goods

Switching Type (A) to In-kind changes what you are recording:

2. Attribute and save

Attribute it exactly as you would a cash gift, then save.

How it is treated afterwards

In-kind gifts use their own receipt template, because a receipt for goods says something different from one for cash. The dashboard also totals them separately, in the In-Kind Donations card, so they do not inflate your cash figures.

What value to place on an in-kind gift, and what your receipt may say about it, is a question for your accountant. Mich records and prints what you tell it.
